Invoice scam warning signs

Invoice fraud often targets the payment step. Pause when the destination, supplier identity, or payment process changes unexpectedly.

New or changed bank details

A compromised email account can be used to replace a supplier’s BSB, account number, or payee name with one controlled by a scammer.

Supplier identity does not line up

Check the supplier name and ABN against records you already trust. Similar names and altered business details can hide payment diversion.

Pressure to pay or keep it secret

Unexpected urgency, unusual payment methods, or instructions not to call the supplier are reasons to stop and verify independently.

Links or attachments demand sign-in

An invoice link can lead to a lookalike login page or malware. Inspect the sender and destination before opening or entering credentials.

What Invoice Guard checks for business workspaces

When the protected business feature is enabled for your workspace, it compares invoice payment information with verified supplier history.

Supplier payment history

Checks whether the payee and bank destination match a supplier baseline that an owner or admin previously verified.

Changed or first-seen details

Flags changes to the bank destination, account name, supplier identity, or ABN. First-seen details are not treated as trusted.

Confirmation of Payee, when configured

If the provider is enabled, its recipient-name result is shown as one signal. A match does not prove that the invoice is genuine.

Independent verification remains essential

Call the supplier using a number already on file before approving changed details. Never rely on a phone number from the invoice or email.

FAQ

These are the questions people usually ask right before they click, reply, or pay.

Pause before changing payment details

Verify the destination before paying.

Contact the supplier through a known, independent channel. Treat first-seen or changed bank details as unverified until that check is complete.
